Always Log Your Ideas

New ideas generate at random times. I rely mostly on those ideas to write these blog posts.

My brain generally generates new ideas while I’m resting or sleeping at night. The peak idea generation time for me is 4 AM to 6 AM in the morning. I’ll be half asleep and half awake during that time.

Sometimes I log the ideas in my mobile but most of the time I skip it because I don’t want to wake up. As soon as I open my mobile phone, I get distracted and will spend hours on it.

One habit I’m trying to build is to not use mobile phone in the morning. I was thinking of not keeping my mobile phone in my bed, but I need it to track my sleep. I use Sleepbot app to track my sleep time. I’ve been doing it for more than a year, and I don’t want to miss out.

It helps me sleep 8 hours everyday by making me aware of it. If, for example, I sleep at 10 PM, I’ll know when I should wake up. It even has an alarm, but I barely use it.

Anyway, since using mobile phones in the morning contradicts with my personal value, I don’t use it even to log new ideas for blog posts.

The same happened today. I had an awesome idea that was generated. I even thought how incredible the blog post would be. I thought I’ll remember it while writing the blog post, but sadly, I don’t remember it now. I have no clue of the idea.
It’s frustrating. I couldn’t write about it here. But it did teach me that I need to log my ideas somewhere every time because we forget ideas 100% of the time.

It has happened to me many times. If I could have logged those ideas properly somewhere, I would have lots of amazing blog posts. But I didn’t log it.

So, I’ll take this as a lesson to write my ideas somewhere even if it’s the middle of the night and will disturb my sleep. However, I’ll give sleep priority if I’m not feeling well.

Always log your ideas somewhere. Keep a proper system of logging it. You can write it on your mobile phone or a piece of paper. But, do write it somewhere.

Do you log your ideas? If so, what do you use? If not, why?
