Back when I was into self-improvement, I used to follow a blogger who used to earn his living solely by gambling. He used to play Poker. I was interested to play Poker since then, but it wasn’t possible because Casinos were not available near my hometown.

Hence I started to look into online casinos as a solution. I recently did a quick research on it’s history because it helps to understand change and how the online casino came into existence.

Online casino and online gaming sites that allowed gambling, began to come into existence in 1994, the year that the Free Trade and Processing Zone Act was passed, and licenses were granted to gambling companies that were looking to take their operations online, as long as they did so within the borders of Antigua and Barbuda. This was not an issue for long, as broadband quickly became available in the developed world, spreading further as time went on. Within a few years, other countries decided to follow suit, legalising online gambling services, and providing licenses to those of whom they approved.

Since that year, nearly 500 legal online gambling sites have formed, and though not all have survived, global revenues eventually rose to more than $18 billion per year. The variety of games available, including Baccarat, Craps, Roulette, Keno, Slot games, Video Poker, and more, combined with the convenience of playing within your own home, or now on mobile, is largely what has made this possible.

One company, more than any other has been responsible for the evolution of the industry, however: in 1998 creating the first ever online progressive jackpot, which means that the amount of winnable money increases each time the game is played, provided a player does not win the jackpot, which would reset the jackpot to a predetermined starting position, the company in question, originally an online gambling establishment itself, sold that part of itself, and, in a brilliant move, refocused its operations purely on developing new online gambling technology.

A new revolution in the industry, arriving in 1999, was the inclusion of multiplayer online gambling games, allowing players to experience a more realistic gaming experience, with the pressure of playing against a living opponent.

In the year 2000, Australia passed a law that preventing any locally based casinos from operating online, unless they had already been doing so prior to the passing of the law. This was good news Lasseters, the only such operation who met the criteria they required in order to continue operating.

In the following years several laws, and organisations, both by governments (mainly the US government), and by the online casinos themselves, in order to make the pastime safer for all. The governments did this to prevent money laundering, partially in response to 9/11, which they apparently believe was at least partially funded by money laundering through gambling sites. The casinos created monitoring organisations out of their own self interest, understanding that a lack of transparency on their part was part of why many governments were loathed to let them operate on home soil.

The US government seems to still be heavily against online casinos, and has continued to try to enact new laws to get them out of the states. It seems however, to be futile. This is thanks largely to the forward thinking of the casinos, who do everything they can to regulate themselves, thereby taking away any means a government may have with which to fight back, and also to the determinedness of the general population of the world to continue getting their dose of excitement in the online gambling world.

The experience of playing in an online casino is often one of intense excitement, depending on what game you play. The variety of games available means that, should you tire of any particular game, there will always be a few hundred more to choose from.
Different games are suited to different moods, and require differing levels of focus, and stamina. As a more relaxed pastime, slots, and any of the casual games are good stress relievers, allowing you to put in a minimal amount of effort, relying instead on chance to decide whether or not you win and, if you do, how much.
Other games, particularly card games, require more commitment from you as a player. They also rely more on your ability than other games, while keeping involved that either frustrating, or exciting, depending on how you look at it, element of chance. While there is never any guarantee that you will walk away with any winnings, card games like blackjack, and poker in particular, rely on skill to the point where, even should you have the best luck in the world during one game, you could still finish empty handed. The pay-off with games of this kind is more often in the tension, in the adrenaline, you feel during the game. That excitement is what brings people back to the table time, and again.
There are a few rules to remember when playing in online casinos. The first is never spend any money you can’t live without, or else you will eventually, and probably quickly, get yourself into trouble. Second, understand that everything is random. The odds are not intentionally stacked against you, they are not stacked at all. Total randomness means a fair game for all involved. Lastly, do not ever play while drunk.

At best it will inhibit you’re ability to know when to stop, and at worst, it strip from you whatever skill you have, an invitation to disaster.
