Read Some Fiction Along with Non Fiction

I try and read lots of books. This year there were two books which slowed down my progress. Self help books are easy to finish because they usually have only one core message in it and we can skip a lot of bullshit in the middle.

However, it’s not easy to do so while reading fiction books. And this year, both of the fiction books I read was more than 900 pages long. I am yet to finish the book I’m reading currently – I’m exactly 50% through it. I wanted to finish it within this year but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do so.

The one I’m reading currently is Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. The book is amazing.

The one I read before was Musashi by Eiji Yoshikawa. It was also a pleasurable journey.

I’ve learned that we shouldn’t try and finish book as fast as we can. Of course, we should try that while reading self help books, but not for fiction books. We need to focus entirely on the story. That helps us to learn more than anything else.

I’m trying to find a balance between non-fiction and fiction. I read non fiction whole year except for two big fictions.

So, I’m thinking of doing the same for next year. Read some fiction along with non fiction.
