There is indeed a danger that if we are exposed to a luxurious lifestyle, we will lose our ability to take delight in simple things.
The paradox of our times
Is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints
We spend more, but we have less.
We have bigger houses, but smaller families
More conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense
More knowledge, but less judgement
More experts, but more problems
More medicines, but less wellness.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often
We have learnt how to make a living, but not a life.
We have added years to life, but not life to years.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back
But have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We have conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted our soul.
We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We’ve higher incomes, but lower morals.
We’ve become long on quantity but short on quality.
These are the times of tall men, and short character;
Steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare,
More leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are the days of two incomes, but more divorces;
Of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in the stockroom.
A time when technology can bring this letter to you,
And a time when you can choose,
Either to make a difference …. or just hit, delete.
~The Dalai Lama
There’s a distinct distinction between successful people and unsuccessful people who struggle to follow their life path. Unsuccessful people believe there are two worlds. One where you work for the sake of paying bills and another where you have fun and live your life in happiness. Most of us don’t want to study in school […]
If you try to strengthen and settle for relationship, you won’t be able to achieve your life goal. It’s because relationships require lots of time and devotion. Without it, relationship will be a failure. In the story of Musashi, Musashi has a coherent life goal of becoming the greatest swordsmen of all time. But he […]
Anything that’s second-hand experience, which we are led to believe by other people is called social conditioning. From the time we came to this earth till now, we have been socially conditioned. There’s first hand experience and second-hand experience. When you learn something through your own reference experience, that’s the first hand experience. You know […]
We notice people suicide when the stock market crashes. It’s because their sense of reality is the stock market. They view themselves as a part of stock market and if it collapses, their sense of reality is gone. And it doesn’t make sense to live in this world when their core sense of reality is […]
The heart of twitter lies in getting updates from people you follow. But I’ve stopped following anyone. I started using twitter by following anyone who followed me. And then following anyone I’d see on the sidebar. I started receiving crap updates from people I never knew about. Slowly, it started to get overwhelming. I didn’t […]
Until some months ago, I would subscribe every website that looked interesting. I would add friends on Facebook and follow random people on Twitter & Google Plus. I have been consuming lots of stuff from other people. Today morning, I was busy disconnecting and decluttering them. I unsubscribed websites which I wasn’t reading often and […]
We were off to Pashupati after exploring Boudha. We kept walking until we found the place for conducting cremation ceremonies. I went to explore those places with my brother Degju and his friend Carrie. We were walking around the place not knowing what to do next. We crossed the bridge and took steps to get to […]
The only way to expand and understand the whole of your consciousness you need to be aware of your conditioning. When we are able to be aware of totality we are functioning all the time with our attention. When we become totally aware of the whole field of consciousness there is no friction. We only […]
