The Paradox of Our Times

The paradox of our times
Is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints
We spend more, but we have less.

We have bigger houses, but smaller families
More conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees, but less sense
More knowledge, but less judgement
More experts, but more problems
More medicines, but less wellness.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often
We have learnt how to make a living, but not a life.
We have added years to life, but not life to years.
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back
But have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We have conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted our soul.
We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice.
We’ve higher incomes, but lower morals.
We’ve become long on quantity but short on quality.

These are the times of tall men, and short character;
Steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare,
More leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorces;
Of fancier houses, but broken homes.
It is a time when there is much in the show window, and nothing in the stockroom.

A time when technology can bring this letter to you,

And a time when you can choose,

Either to make a difference …. or just hit, delete.

Fill Dead Time

Today I was waiting for someone and had to fill in dead time. Most of the time, we waste those dead time. We either complain about the person making us wait for a long time, or do nothing beneficial. Anyway, today I was waiting and I had lots of time to kill. I thought about…

The Long And Hard Way

Whenever I learn or work on anything, I always opt for the long and hard way. I was never like that before. I hate to wait. So, I always tried taking the easy approach. I would want to learn everything within a day or two, because I didn't have patience to wait for a long time, nor…

When The Whole World Is Watching The World Cup

Some years ago, I stopped watching TV because it was too distracting. And during that time, I stopped taking sports seriously, because it wouldn't solve any major problems in the world and wouldn't benefit me in anyway except for the instant gratification and thrill I'd get. So, I stopped watching and taking sports seriously. I'd…

Rinse and Repeat

I usually feel demotivated to organize and work on self improvement after I fail to master it. I try and do it again, and fail again. It then starts to get very frustrating. I was aware that I need to work on it constantly, but not sure how much. I have been doing the same…

Cannot Stop Thinking?

I have been meditating for a while just to make myself feel good that I'm meditating. I didn't see any change in my thoughts and feelings. Today I thought of doing a 20 minute serious meditation. I kept alarm in exactly 20 minutes and started meditating. The main goal for me was to not think…

One Second Everyday Video (For Five Months) Interview

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGSA_ZCDiHg I started taking one second everyday video from September 13, 2013. And it reached 5 months on Feb 13, 2014. I'm really happy to publish one second video of five months. It's like a major accomplishment for me. Along those lines, Jamie from GreatBigScaryWorld was inspired and thought of doing something similar during his next…
